while it is incredibly cool to grow your root filesystem from 1 TB to 4 TB using just two quickly typed commands (remaining online throughout, if you're really brave), this command-line style of computer administration has never really caught on with the general public.

i've used linux since winter break 1992, and have used linux almost exclusively as my desktop operating system since finishing school in 1994.

i'm in the process of consolidating storage and backup devices onto newer hardware, with some help from the deduplication and compression features of zfs-fuse.

expanding this filesystem gives me room to start digitizing my collection of analog audio & video.

noromdiam: Tim has installed Linux on all 3 of his computers, it's quite difficult for the layperson (me) to use the computer for things that require Flash or most kinds of multimedia applications.
cmrowell: That is a pretty low level thing to be doing. Most of the higher level sysadmin stuff has a GUI now. I don't have any problems running Flash on my Linux machines. I don't know about the developer side. Sometimes I feel left out of all of the latest Photoshop features, but I do pretty well with GIMP.
