nick, embarking on his first solo walk to school

we've both been telling nick our “uphill, in the snow, both ways” stories about how we were latchkey children and always walked to and from school by ourselves when we were his age. nick is all for it, and we've almost run out of days in the school year to let him take a solo walk to school -- so despite the sad local news about another missing kid, we let him run off without us. he showed up for class without a hitch.
