chips spent his birthday last week having one of his toes amputated. as cool as it looks, this was not a cosmetic mod, it was a last-ditch effort to prevent Osteomyelitis from spreading any further. now he gets to recuperate at home with antibiotics delivered straight to his heart. i'd rather have a sock full of hungry maggots feasting on my toe ulcer before enduring any of this.
without fully understanding the situation, we told our kids that papa chips ate too much candy, and the doctor had to cut his toe off to save his life. root cause probably not diabetes or candy, but we might make that the official story for another ten years or until the kids start reading my flickr captions.
