this always looked like a social hub when walking past it, its sad to see it (very suddenly) vacant and on the market.

brothers reunited [40 photos] nick returned from a two week visit with his dad in seattle. i never stayed away from home as a kid -- no memorable sleepovers, slumber parties, summer camp, or trips without my family before i was a teenager. nick has been doing all of the above and enjoying them since he was an infant.
sequoia doesn't complain if nick disappears for a mere weekend -- but with nick gone for two full weeks, sequoia was missing his big brother and asking about him every day - “nick's at school?” “mama getting nick?” “i miss nick.” etc.
rachel retrieved nick on sunday and she tracked us down on our walk to the library, where the brothers were reunited. they had an adorable reunion hug (not recorded), and spent the rest of the afternoon together, behaving in a manner entirely irritating to peace-loving adults everywhere -- running through the house screaming, deploying fireworks in the street, and inventing new and very loud games of bike tag, chase, etc. the cul-de-sac.
they ended the evening going to bed together in the camping tent in our living room -- which lasted for a rowdy 15 minutes before sequoia opted for his familiar futon downstairs and nick had the tent to himself all night.
recession real estate in lake oswego, oregon [133 photos] i like to jog around the lake, and have noticed more and more “for sale” signs popping up along this route as the housing situation worsens (presumably due to the collapse of the sub-prime lending market - but i would not have expected people buying million-dollar-plus lakefront homes to be financing them via interest-only or ARM loans). listing of homes for sale in lake oswego, courtesy of zillow.com - presently finds 813 homes for sale in lake oswego (out of ~17,000 homes in lake oswego) , about 5%.

long and interesting article about life after the bubble in portland.
The financial industry, whose greed and irresponsibility helped steer the economy into the trash bin, the same industry that then needed an unprecedented rescue package courtesy of the American taxpayer, is now suddenly the picture of prudence when it comes to modifying a hard-pressed homeowner's mortgage.
