LAKE OSWEGO: Some streets too steep for driving
Lake Oswego's street crews worked through the night to sand and plow steep hills. However, a handful of streets remained closed this morning due to hazardous conditions.
Elizabeth Papadopoulos, the city's maintenance supervisor, said motorists should avoid hilly areas such as the Mountain Park and Palisades neighborhoods -- despite the city's best efforts.
“These are not places I recommend that people be driving,” she said. “There's only so much we can do. We can't defy gravity.”
Papadopoulos said street closures included Overlook, Upper Cherry, Wall, Walking Woods and Bryant, between Lakeview and Summit.
“Overlook has a 20 percent slope,” she said. “We simply had to close it.”
2007-01-16: six inches of snow fell overnight. the entire city is closed and most people are excused from work, unless you're like me and you telecommute to sunny southern california.

NIKE: Will close campus at 2 p.m.
Nike will close its Washington County headquarters at 2 p.m. today, giving employees who made it in today an early start on their commutes home.
Only about half of the approximately 6,000 employees at the 1 Bowerman Drive “campus” made it to work, said Bob Applegate, a Nike spokesman. “It's quiet out here, the lake on the campus is lightly frozen over with a small open area where the geese are.”
Applegate said he was leaving at about 11:30 a.m. “The smart money says hit the road,” he said.
