compaq r3000z ebay auction [16 photos] these photos support a no-reserve, as-is ebay auction of my ailing laptop computer, an amd64-based compaq presario R3000Z.



i'm hoping somebody who can fix the loose power connector will buy it, otherwise you may want to plunder it for the RAM, the batteries, the motherboard and cpu or perhaps to transplant the wuxga LCD into another machine. you might even just want a cheap copy of windows xp professional.

the laptop has a 1920x1200 wide ultra-xga (wuxga) pixel lcd, a fast desktop-replacement cpu capable of running 64-bit operating systems (both windows xp 64 and 64-bit linux kernels have run well here. this auction includes standard 32-bit windows xp pro) 1.5 GB of memory, a 4x dvd burner, and an 802.11b / 802.11g wireless lan chip.

i am the original owner, i purchased the laptop direct from HP in september 2004 and used it through october 2005, and only occasionally thereafter (due to power connector issue, see below).

damage


broken power connector in the laptop. the connector / jack is loose and does not power the laptop or charge the battery without considerable jiggling and fussing with the cable. i had the broken jack repaired once, locally after the warranty expired, but the repair has come undone. you won't be able to reliably plug this laptop into the wall until the jack is repaired or replaced. this issue is the reason the laptop is being sold.

pcmcia ejection lever - if you use pcmcia cards, the ejection mechanism for the single pcmcia slot needs repair, the spring-loaded eject button fell out. the spring and the two-piece plastic button are included in a ziploc bag.

loose cover on dvd drawer - the plastic cover on the dvd/rw tray is loose, it could probably be glued back on.

rubber feet missing - three of the four rubber feet that once graced the bottom are missing in action


caveat

i'm including an ancient 10gb hard drive for the convenience of the buyer, but you shouldn't be buying this laptop for its hard drive.
