noromdiam: I like the pretty red tongue!
sean dreilinger: in-person, the garter snake flicked its forked tongue too fast to tell, but further inspection of the photos reveal that the snake actually had a two-tone tongue - black on the tip and red at the base. this picture shows off the two-tone snake tongue better. i'm hoping someone from the herpetology groups will explain (i submitted two of the snake pictures to various flickr snake and herp groups).
