ACUMED Company Picnic 2007 [46 photos] Company picnic this weekend at the Portland Zoo.
Rachel started working for Acumed as a biomechanical engineer a few weeks ago. She's part of a new Acumed division called the Lower Extremities Group (Leg, get it?). They make surgical implants out of space-age metal (e.g. titanium) for orthopedic surgeons to use in fracture treatment, internal fixation, etc.
When Acumed announced a funny hat contest would be held at the company picnic, Rachel conceived and created (over the course of several late nights) a marketing hat for Acumed. the hat simulates an oversized Acumed Acutrak screw being torqued clear through the wearer's skull. the front of the hat is embroidered with the slogan “I Got Screwed by ACUMED…” and the embroidered fine print on the back of the hat reads “…and I'd do it again!” The prize for the hat contest was a wii video game console -- so the competition was fierce. Rachel's headgear made it into the final round before being eliminated by the community applause meter.
