coffee roasting in an electric oven is discouraged by every “how to” guide that i've read, but i really wanted to try out home roasting a few times on the cheap before i spring for a hobbyist coffee roaster like a gene cafe roaster or a hottop.

our oven seems to be mis-calibrated and run about 25 degrees hotter than the dial suggests. since the oven thermometers reviewed on had maximum temperatures that were too low, and suffered from crappy reviews - i bought this digital multimeter with a thermometer instead. in addition to temperature, it also measures light (lux), relative humidity (%RH), and sound pressure level (dB) -- those all seem unusual for a digital multimeter (here's my model and a newer version of the multimeter). i'm going to put a shoulder strap on it and start calling it my “tricorder.”
