Oahu and Maui 2009 [314 photos] Just six short days on Oahu and Maui. We stayed with my BFFs Mona and Tom in Honolulu for 2 nights and then enjoyed 3 free nights (Hilton Honors rocks) at the Grand Wailea on Maui. Jeff attended a small reunion of friends from high school.

Day One: We hit a Hawaiian food joint first thing, yum. Then we toured Mona and Tom's current project under construction. We took a hot hike to see an old rock wall and then Tom cooked us a wonderful dinner.

Day Two: Jeff and I drove to Haleiwa to go surfing but it was flat. So we had another Hawaiian plate lunch and then drove the scenic drive back into town. We went surfing at Waikiki where I caught ONE wave. That night was pupus at the Kahala Hotel with Tom and Mona.

Day Three: Jeff and I had a swell shabu shabu lunch near Ala Moana and then caught a flight to Maui. The Grand Wailea on Maui is massive and a little too Disneylandish for me but it was terrific to be upgraded to a nicer room with access to complimentary breakfast, tea time and an appetizer/cocktail hour ON TOP of our already free stay.

Day Four: Yoga and ocean swimming in the morning. Relaxing and reading by the beach while Jeff lifted in the gym. Then a lovely sunset dinner at Spago's next door at the Four Seasons.

Day Five: Took an hour run along the beach path while Jeff swam in the ocean. Relaxed most of the day and then drove 1.5 hrs. to Napili to have dinner with Tim Bruns and friends.

Day Six: Fly to Oahu for a 3 hr. lay over at HNL and then flight to SFO. Sucked up the whole day of course.

Terrific trip, just had to pay for food and airfare.
