As early as 1996, the California Avocado Commission offered its growers the opportunity to access basic market data in visual representation on the web. The original backend system to make these pre-plotted daily charts possible was anything but basic. In fact, the original implementaiton was such a complex headache of proprietary Microsoft Access and Visual Basic kluged together with nightly hands-on FTP that we initiated a complete redesign to achieve: | |

With
these goals in mind we worked with the original system developers to outsource the
project. My role in the redesign included evaluation of the original
interface, the initial goals and specifications for redesign, rfp preparation, and vendor
selection. the portable charting solution proved such a success that the client recently paid for additional development of a special cd-rom to distribute to all 6,000 avocado growers, which will provide a hybrid desktop/internet version of the Java database client. |
