7-4-89

one man stands at the intersection
in the Big Bear parking lot
he wears a sign tied around his neck
it says ``I WILL WORK FOR FOOD''

cars drive by full of grocery bags
in the Big Bear parking lot
people try to close their eyes
they can't stand to see this man cry

when the light turns red
under dark clouds in the sky
it doesn't ever stop the rain
i can feel it as we all fall down...
we all fall down again

one man stands, another man falls
all we can do is stand by
hoping that we can stay on our feet
i don't understand it at all

one man walks through the parking lot
picks up aluminum cans
he only stops to warm up his hands
what goes on in our great promised land
