American Friend

Went down to the Post Office today,
to apply for my passport.
i was down there yesterday but
they didn't believe...i had ever been born.

So now consider yourself forewarned:
if i had no beginning, i will have no end.
Due to this oath that i have solemnly sworn,
i hope you'll remember...your american friend.

Remember me over and over the ocean,
when you look out of the airplane and the sea.
i remember you don't like to fly over the water...

Just keep in mind the wet roads,
that you love to run as all the rain descends.

When the sunlight breaks through the clouds onto the water,

Those rays they reach around the whole world:
reach out...and break through to you.

Stay out tonight to see the sun that i've seen set--
