Upward Bound

here i am alone again
no true friend--nobody who'll stay
leave me when it's all gone wrong
leave me crying go away!

face in hands--shed my tears
waiting fear for rising sun
tonight i hear a hopeful song
the night is long but the day will come

please come and help me (when i'm down)
just hold your hand out (and i'm found)
live for tomorrow (upward bound)
there will be a new day!

give up easy out in the cold
should i hold onto my blind faith
fall so bold to find my faults
fall seven times to stand up eight

at least there's still `at least' for me
although i see through vacant stare
it cannot be they've given up
it will not be because i still care!

i know everybody will fall down
even you--you'll fall down
i understand--we fall down
we can change the world when we stand up
