morel mushrooms [13 photos] our local grocery store had morel mushrooms this weekend. in the 1970's, my parents picked these mushrooms on our rented property in yellow springs ohio, i can remember frying and eating them there. in 1990, i found and picked a gallon ziploc bag full of morels in hetch-hetchy wilderness the spring after a huge forest fire, but the little larvae inside the mushrooms scared me into giving the whole bag away :-(. tonight we had turnip and carrot, brussel sprouts, and fettuccine with morel cream sauce.
