independence day 2009 [36 photos] lori and scott invited us to a potluck barbeque at their house to celebrate (US) independence day. there were lots of kids for sequoia to play with, enthusiastic dialogue about literacy and politics, patriotic desserts, and we even got to enjoy the first few amateur fireworks before carting sequoia off to bed (an hour late for him but still an hour before dark).

lori and scott generously created a kids' gift bag with some of the safer low-key fireworks, which nick and sequoia got to enjoy together the next day.
