update june 2008 - per the pew internet The Internet and Consumer Choice report - i can't believe that only 12% of cell phones are procured online. seems like it should be a lot more than that. 78% in-store and ~10% by other means.

miss love and i just went in together on a cell plan c/o amazon.com.

let the address-book transfers begin! since i have them resurrected to enter numbers into the new phone, here are all of the cell phones i've ever owned. they all still work, albeit the buttons on the nokia 3560 in the middle have stopped working reliably. the sony-ericsson w810i (right) is a linux-friendly phone, 2-megapixel camera, and mp3 player all in one. with a 4gb pro duo memory stick, i can go jogging without my minidisc player :-), and even bring home a few photos every now and then! rachel opted for a pink razr phone.

jsf.online: That is a shorter cell phone evolution than I expected. They keep shrinking, and no flips in evidence.

I can not even recall all that I've had, or the ways in which they have been destroyed - 'though the destruction usually involved a bike ride.
Just Karsten: I love my w810i. Are you saying that Linux can be loaded on it?
sean dreilinger: hi Minister K - no, i don't know about running linux on the phone as an OS. what i mean is that i can plug the sony-ericsson w810i into my linux box using a usb cable, and linux sees it as a compatible usb mass-storage device. from there i can exchange .mp3 files, photo files, etc. very conveniently.

i did flash the phone once also, to restore the sony original firmware instead of the cingular-impaired firmware. for this operation, i had to connect the phone to a ms-windows computer.
The Consumerist: Hi, I'm an admin for a group called Consumerist.com, and we'd love to have your photo added to the group.
swedishstarfish: i havethe w810i and it keeps shorting out on me :o/
Commodore128: Nokia 3560, hmmm… never seen it before.

Notes:

sean dreilinger: in 1999 (or 1998?) i received this nokia 6185, hacked to display 'SavvySearch' on the screen instead of 'Sprint PCS' daniel sent me this phone from wellesley to use for SavvySearch.
sean dreilinger: in the summer of 2003, this nokia 3560 replaced the big brick, whose battery contacts were shot.
sean dreilinger: thanksgiving 2006 - sony ericsson w810i phone / mp3 player / camera.
