my liquid-cooled computer started sizzling last month, it sounded like i was cooking a stir-fry inside the case. turns out a $30 thermaltake water-cooled vga heatsink had cracked, melted, or otherwise ruptured and spilled coolant all over $6,000 worth of high-end computing hardware. major bummer. took a long time to clean everything out and restart it with noisy fan-cooled hardware. i've ordered some enormous passive heatsinks to try and get back to silent computing without the water pump.

liquid cooled computer meltdown [5 photos] my liquid-cooled computer started sizzling last month, it sounded like i was cooking a stir-fry inside the case. turns out a $30 Thermaltake Aquarius II VGA Waterblock (water-cooled vga heatsink) had cracked, melted, or otherwise ruptured and spilled coolant all over $6,000 worth of high-end computing hardware. major bummer. moments after the vga heatsink broke, the coolant pump from my Thermaltake Tai-Chi Super Tower Case with water cooling died, perhaps from pressure build-up. took a long time to clean everything out and restart it with noisy fan-cooled hardware. i've ordered some enormous passive heatsinks to try and get back to silent computing without the water pump.
